An example of Maps on CD-Books:
Franklin's Second Expedition

Maps are accessed from the HOME page which brings us to the "Index of Maps" (Fig.1, below). We select the map to view by clicking on it. For this example our selection is Map 6 (bottom right-hand): "Discoveries made by British Officers ..."
Fig. 2 shows the 'Base Map' of our selection. The base map is divided into a number of 'segments' for viewing the detail. We select segment four (left, middle) and click on it.
Fig. 3: Selected segment shows a high resolution map and buttons in the margin. In the upper left-hand corner is an index showing the relation of the selected segment to the whole map. Buttons allow for return to the Base Map, or HOME page, or the Table of Contents. Also the displayed segment can be printed. Finally, it is possible to enlarge the displayed area by 'zooming in'. Pressing the bottom button brings up a zoom factor selection window.
Fig. 4 (below) shows a portion of the enlarged segment. Enlargements up to 400% are possible, thus allowing examination of the finest details engraved on the enclosed maps.
